Being at Peace with Yourself - The TRUE Holy Grail - 2005/02/12 14:50
Trading in itself is really not so difficult, yet somehow it still takes a lifetime to master. Why is that? Why is it that one can keep calling out great moves until the real money finally comes to the table and then watches the losses rack up? The real key is that trading doesn't take genius, though it does help. Trading doesn't necessarily take talent, though that certainly can help too. It takes persistance, determination, and PEACE OF MIND. Trading does not let us hide from our own deep-rooted issues as easily as some other professions do. Our results are a complete result of our own actions. So you either learn to face yourself and your demons, or you pursue other endeavors. Interestingly enough, my perspective on this has always been that whatever goals you pursue in life, if you do not deal with your issues they will always haunt you in their own way, though the effects may not be quite as noticeable as their effect while you are trading. Two techniques that I have recently been involved with offers some fantastic guidance in help to unravel the mysteries that lurk in our minds and hold us back from reaching our full potential (not only in trading, but in life). The following is a synopsis of two books that I would highly recommend you all read. You may even want to go on and sign up for the full programs. You may find links to order either of these books in the "Trading Book Deals" section. "The Hoffman Process : The World-Famous Technique That Empowers You to Forgive Your Past, Heal Your Present, and Transform Your Future" by Tim Laurence The Hoffman Process is a powerful technique that will empower you with the ability to shed yourself of the beliefs and patterns that limit you from reaching your full potential. The Process provides tools that can be utilized every day as you continue on a journey of greater self-awareness and personal spiritual growth. For success as a trader, and in life in general, it is necessary to place yourself in the correct frame of mind. We must also be aware of our dark side and make sure that it is not creeping back to sabotage our hopes and dreams. In trading, these "demons" are quick to materialize in the form of fear, greed, zoning out, gambling, pushing (over-trading), etc. The Process helps you connect to the inner peace and harmony that exists within us and all around us. In fact, I found this book so fascinating in the way that it brought many concepts together that I went on to become a full Graduate of The Hoffman Process. For more details on the graduate program, visit http://www.hoffmaninstitute.org. I highly recommend you purchase both this book and The Sedona Method as well. "The Sedona Method: Your Key to Lasting Happiness, Success, Peace and Emotional Well-Being" by Hale Dwoskin The Sedona Method provides simple step by step techniques to help you release and let go of the beliefs and feelings that limit you and hold you back from reaching your full potential. Although there are similarities between this method and The Hoffman Process, I believe that the two complement one another beautifully along a path of achieving inner peace and harmony. The Sedona Method provides additional simple ways to simply "release" the issues we face everyday that block us and cause us to sabotage our own efforts for achieving the true level of success that we are all capable of reaching. If something doesn't click from The Hoffman Method, reading The Sedona Method may bridge the gap and provide you with the "ah-hah" you need to move forward (and vice-versa). For a trading-related example, let's say each time you enter a trade you feal fear and anxiety. Instead of always fighting these feelings, "allow" yourself to feel them - stop fight it! The next step is to allow yourself to let go of the feeling - drop it like a hot potato - so that you can get back to focusing on doing the right thing - properly managing your trade and rationally determining when to get out in accordance with your plan. Again, I highly recommend you purchase both this book and The Hoffman Process as well. To Being at Peace with Yourself, To Achieving your Goals, To Reaching your True Potential in Life, Alexander
